Water reuse to support drinking water resources

Water reuse to augment drinking water supplies

The Prairie Waters project is about water reuse to support drinking water resources for the city of Aurora, Colorado. Water is reused from a watercourse (South Platte River) heavily influenced by wastewater using a multi-barrier treatment train. This consists of a combination of nature-based processes (bank filtration, sequential groundwater recharge) with advanced water treatment (UV-AOP, BAC, GAC). The treated water covers 30% of the drinking water requirements of the city of Aurora. Prof. Drewes played a leading role in the design and realisation of the nature-based treatment and in the water quality assessment of the overall system during commissioning and regular operation.
