For the International Garden Exhibition (IGA) in 2027, which will be held at various sites in the Ruhr metropolitan area, Wirtschaftsbetriebe Duisburg-AöR intends to implement water reuse for irrigating the Rheinpark. As part of the Hochfeld wastewater treatment plant renovation, a service water system will be constructed. As well as being used as process water, the system will provide water for irrigation. The water will be treated in accordance with the requirements of the upcoming Federal Water Reuse Ordinance and the DWA-M1200 technical regulations, and will be used to irrigate urban green spaces as part of the IGA exhibition. The aim is to ensure compliance with legal requirements and the practicality of urban water reuse. A site-specific risk management plan (RMP) will be drawn up with the involvement of all relevant stakeholders. This plan will form the basis for the approval and application permit for water reuse within the framework of the IGA 2027. Dr. Zhiteneva and Prof. Drewes were involved the risk assessment and developing the RMP, and in supporting the permit application.
